Funded by the American Rescue Plan and awarded through the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the grants provide funding to address community needs and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday signed legislation S.4661/A.7330 that provides for the transfer of a portion of fines issued for illegally passing a school bus to the comprehensive school bus driver safety training program for the study and promotion of issues involving school bus safety, establishing a school bus motorist education fund. This legislation aims to discourage motorists from illegally passing stopped school buses thus increasing safety to school children.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday signed legislation that increases penalties against motorists and repair shops that illegally modify mufflers and exhaust systems to make them excessively noisy - an act her team said is associated with aggressive driving that harms community health, safety and comfort. This bill amends vehicle and traffic law, increasing fines and penalties and creating stricter regulations on vehicle equipment.

Congressman Brian Higgins announced the passage of H.R. 4035, the Real Justice for Our Veterans Act of 2021. The bill provides $3 million annually from 2022 through 2027 for grants through the U.S. Department of Justice to local governments operating veteran treatment courts.
