Youngstown Halloween parade returns

Fri, Oct 29th 2021 10:55 am

The Village of Youngstown Recreation Commission invites families to partake in the return of its annual Halloween extravaganza. After being canceled last year due to COVID-19, the event returns Saturday at Falkner Park on Main Street.

“The Youngstown Recreation Commission is hoping for good weather, and we are super-excited to welcome kids and families back for our annual Halloween extravaganza,” member Michelle Deutschman said.

Registration for the costume contest will open at 12:30 p.m., with the community parade led by the Youngstown Police Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co. beginning at 1 p.m. from Falkner Park.

The parade route will start at the park on Second Street, cross Lockport Road down to Hinman Street, and return to Main Street, where the business community will welcome trick-or-treaters with Halloween goodies.

Following the parade, there will be games, prizes and prepackaged treats and drinks for everyone at the park. The costume contest winners will be announced, and prizes awarded.

“Another twist this year is that we are welcoming well-behaved dogs to our outdoor celebration in honor of the construction and development of the new dog park in Veterans Park by Eagle Scout Liam Robinson,” Deutschman said. “We are hoping to see dogs in costumes, as there will be prizes in dog categories as well.

“Enjoy the dog park, and thank you, Liam, for working to improve the recreational offerings in our community for dogs and their owners.”
