Hochul announces suspension of construction-related lane closures for Memorial Day weekend

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York state highways will be suspended from 6 a.m. Friday, May 27, to 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, to ease travel throughout Memorial Day weekend.

The orange lighting is also in memory of the 19 children and two teachers lost in the May 24 shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

Commercial structure fire at Shawnee Golf Course

At 5:23 a.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Communications Center received numerous 911 calls reporting a commercial structure fire at the Shawnee Golf Course in the Town of Wheatfield. Responding deputies found the structure to be fully involved on the north end, which was determined to be a maintenance garage for the business.
