The students crafted special messages for seniors at 16 different senior facilities, including seniors at senior centers, Meals on Wheels clients, residents of nursing homes, assisted living and rehab facilities.

GuildCare specializes in services for veterans and individuals with vision loss who are 18 years of age and older and have been diagnosed with a chronic medical condition, and those who require hands-on assistance.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos has announced results of the second year of a pilot program allowing mentored 12- and 13-year-old hunters to harvest deer with a firearm or crossbow. Before 1 p.m. Monday afternoon, the Niagara Falls Fire Department and New York State Park Police responded to a call for two people possibly in the Niagara Gorge, between Terrapin Point and the Cave of the Winds at Niagara Falls State Park. Upon arrival, they were advised two people climbed over a railing and fell from the edge.

The 39th annual St. Patrick's Day celebration, presented by the Niagara Falls Ancient Order of Hibernians, will take place Friday, March 17. The area's largest St. Patrick's Day party - and 131st birthday celebration of Niagara Falls - will kick off with the "World's Shortest Parade" at 4:45 p.m. from the corner of Rainbow Boulevard and Old Falls Street. Family-friendly festivities will continue until 11 p.m. inside the Niagara Falls Convention Center at 101 Old Falls St.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday announced that state and local law enforcement agencies throughout New York will be stepping up patrols and targeting impaired driving over the Super Bowl weekend. The enforcement campaign will run from Friday, Feb. 10, through Monday, Feb. 13. This safety initiative is designed to reduce alcohol and drug-related traffic crashes. It is sponsored by STOP-DWI with funding from the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee.

February may be the shortest month of the year, but there's no shortage of reasons to celebrate. Beginning with a month-long observance of Black history to a holiday dedicated to love, colorful Mardi-Gras floats, and a Super Bowl we sadly weren't a part of this year, there's an occasion to gather friends and family for. It's nice to have things to look forward to in what feels like the coldest time of the year and according to Punxsutawney Phil, we're in for an extended winter.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday announced $7.6 million is available to support animal shelters and humane societies in making "critical upgrades" at New York's animal shelters. This is the fifth round of funding for New York State's Companion Animal Capital Fund, the first state-funded program in the nation to provide for shelter improvement projects. Funded projects will enhance animal care and help to ensure adoptions for New York's dogs and cats.
