Congressman Brian Higgins, D-NY-26, hailed passage of S. 893, the Veterans' Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act, in the House of Representatives. This legislation would provide for an annual cost-of-living adjustment increase to veterans compensation of the same amount as the Social Security COLA.

Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula today announced Pat LaFontaine has been hired to serve as president of hockey operations for the team. Pegula also announced Darcy Regier and Ron Rolston have been relieved of their respective duties. Ted Nolan has been hired as the team's interim head coach and the Sabres have retained the remainder of the coaching staff.

At a press conference this morning at the First Niagara Center, Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula announced general manager Darcy Reiger and coach Ron Rolston have been fired. Former Sabres star Pat LaFontaine has been brought on as president of hockey operations. He, in turn, has brought back former coach Ted Nolan to serve as interim coach.

Schneiderman and Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden announced 31 attorneys general have signed onto a letter urging three of the leading smartphone manufacturers - Google/Motorola, Samsung and Microsoft - to develop a technological means to protect smartphone users in their states by drying up secondary markets for stolen devices and eliminate the economic incentive for theft.

Saturday, Oct. 26, was the last run of the Marble Orchard Ghost Walk until next fall. The Lewiston Ghost Walk, also known as The Marble Orchard Ghost Walk, is put on every year by The Lewiston Council on the Arts. The walk ran every Saturday night in September and October this fall thanks to a volunteer cast, whose members, of course, dress in character as townspeople from the 1800s.
