At a press conference this morning at the First Niagara Center, Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula announced general manager Darcy Reiger and coach Ron Rolston have been fired. Former Sabres star Pat LaFontaine has been brought on as president of hockey operations. He, in turn, has brought back former coach Ted Nolan to serve as interim coach.

Despite a win Tuesday night over the Los Angeles Kings, the Sabres are off to the worst start in franchise history at 4-15-1. Rolston, who took over late last season when coach Lindy Ruff was fired, had compiled a 19-26-6 record.

LaFontaine is expected to hire a general manager to replace Reiger, who was with the team for 16 years. LaFontaine played for the Sabres from 1991-97, and was inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 2003.

Nolan coached the team from 1995-97.
