AAA: Hunting season opens - motorists should beware

Opening day of regular season deer hunting is Nov. 19 in most areas of Western and Central New York. Hunting will stir the deer population, which is already active due to mating season. AAA is warning motorists to buckle up, be extra cautious on the roads, and scan for deer and other animals.

It has been two years since Sister & Brother closed its doors in Lewiston. Last year, Lisa and Mark Leffler reopened the beloved children's boutique in the Village of Youngstown, right on Main Street. The location was small, but full of beautiful clothing for children and a small selection of toys.
Lewiston Garden Club to hang holiday wreaths

The Lewiston Garden Club met at the Red Brick School on Monday, Nov. 14. During the meeting, members prepared new holiday wreaths for use on Center Street lamp posts. The club helped purchase the new wreaths from funds raised by GardenFest. New bows for the wreaths were prepared by Kathy Opera and Marianne Gittermann.

On Nov. 15, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office deputy assigned as the school resource officer at the Starpoint School District received a report of a possible threat of violence at the school. After an investigation by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Bureau, a juvenile student who attends Starpoint Middle School was charged with one count of making a terroristic threat (a D- felony).

The New York Power Authority announced fishing facilities, including the fishing pier at the base of the Power Authority's Robert Moses Niagara Hydroelectric Power Plant, will close for the season at dusk today, Tuesday, Nov. 15. The fishing pier located near the Upper Mountain Fire Co. at the Lewiston Reservoir and at the water intakes along the upper Niagara River will also close for the season.

NYS: $21.4 million to provide support services for displaced Ukrainians living in New York

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced more than $21.4 million has been awarded to help Ukrainians, who have fled their country as a result of Russia's military invasion, to temporarily resettle in New York. The funding will be utilized by 17 refugee services providers around the state to assist displaced Ukrainians now living in New York.
