Niagara County Department of Public Works Commissioner Garret Meal announced a section of Griswold Road in the Town of Royalton will be closed to all motorists, except local traffic, beginning Aug. 22. Electronic message boards warning motorists of the pending closure will be put in place on Aug. 15.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the distribution of $44.4 million in federal pandemic funding to help struggling New Yorkers with children to cover back-to-school and early life nutritional expenses. Administered by the state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, the Pandemic Emergency Assistance Fund will provide New Yorkers on Public Assistance with one-time payments of $214 for each child ages 3 to 17, and $150 for each child younger than 3 in their household.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn is issuing a warning about a reported scam that recently victimized a resident in the Town of Lancaster. Perpetrators commit this crime, commonly known as the "grandparent scam," by using various tactics to emotionally manipulate their victims in order to fraudulently obtain money while hiding their true identity.

Though summer may be winding down, the free summer concerts in Youngstown are still in full swing. These concerts, a collaboration between volunteers and the Village of Youngstown mayor and Board of Trustees, have been bringing music to the area on Friday nights for over 20 years. Musical acts this year have featured bagpipes to yacht rock, and lots in between.
