Legislation requires Division of Military and Naval Affairs to provide information on benefits for National Guard members
Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday signed legislation (S.666-A/A.5832-A) that requires information on the benefits and services available to National Guard members in both written form and on the Division of Military and Naval Affairs website. This includes services such as family benefits; morale, welfare and recreation discounts; veterans benefits; insurance; and financial assistance.
"Our National Guard members put their lives on the line every day to keep New Yorkers across the state safe, and they are owed a great deal for their sacrifice," Hochul said. "As my administration continues to strive towards transparency and clarity in all facets of government, this bill will help our National Guard members clearly understand the benefits that are offered to them for their service to New Yorkers."
New York Adjutant Gen. Maj. Gen. Ray Shields said, “Taking care of our service members is our highest priority, this legislation to provide updates and current benefit information to our soldiers and airmen is important to every member of the New York National Guard. Recruiting and retaining service members and strengthening the support for our military families across the Division of Military and Naval Affairs means always striving to keep members informed by using every tool and technology at our disposal. We thank Gov. Hochul and the Legislature for their continued support.”
State Sen. James Sanders Jr. said, “As a senator and a Marine Corps veteran, I truly care about our military personnel and I am always looking for ways to improve their lives. This bill would allow National Guard members to have a place to find information on benefits and services available to them and their families, which is a really important resource.”
Assembly member Marianne Buttenschon said, “The National Guard play a vital role in military service for this great nation. I have the honor to represent Rome, New York, where the 224 New York Air Defense Group at the Eastern Air Defense Sector is stationed. Three hundred dedicated guard members serve and provide the Air Defense to the North East sector of the United States. This legislation will provide the information on benefits that these members and their families deserve. I want to thank the governor for signing this crucial legislation.”
