The annual Home Assistance Referral Team fundraiser returns to the Lewiston Event Center tonight. From 6-10 p.m. guests can mingle with celebrities, try their hand at basket and 50/50 raffles, and watch the Lewiston-Porter Jazz Ensemble perform. Headlining the benefit event is the Summer of '69 All-Star Band, joined by special guest Gary Baker.

The United Way of Buffalo & Erie County has announced 13 organizations will receive grant funding from a $1 million commitment from the General Mills Foundation. The partnership aims to improve local community food security. To celebrate Earth Day on April 20, National Grid will distribute 1,000 LED light bulbs to individuals who live in the south end of Niagara Falls. Residents of 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th streets, from Pine Avenue to Niagara Street, are eligible for National Grid's "Light Up the Neighborhood" program, which offers new LED lighting in exchange for old light bulbs.

Niagara County Sheriff James R. Voutour has announced the new addition to the sheriff's office canine team has been named in honor of Chief Craig C. Harmon, who was the chief of the Niagara County Drug Task Force when he passed away in 2004. The new canine, Chief, is currently in training with handler Deputy Richard Bull. He was purchased through many generous donations and funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The Niagara County Republican Committee elected Legislator Rich Andres, a North Tonawanda resident, as the party's new chairman at an executive committee meeting on Tuesday night. Andres will take over leadership of the county's committee from Adam VanDeMark, who stepped down at the meeting while citing professional and family obligations.
