The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy, the first nonprofit organization in the nation to manage and operate a historic urban park system, on Tuesday announced it has received a $21,315 grant from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Legacy Fund at the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo. This grant will allow for much-needed upgrades to the goal mouths of the soccer fields at the Meadow in Delaware Park.

In a field-work expedition designed to honor Western New York's unique Underground Railroad heritage, about 120 seventh and eighth grade scholars from Buffalo Public Schools' My Brother's Keeper (MBK) program, joined by a small group of local educators and artists, will create an original and symbolic art installation while visiting the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center.

One of the most iconic restaurant businesses in Western New York is set to make its Lewiston debut later this year. The Como Restaurant will open up a deli at the corner of Center and South Sixth streets, inside what used to be Melloni's Meats and, most recently, Cal's Grinders. The Village of Lewiston location will be operated by the Antonacci and Colucci families.

Last week, thousands of Christian music fans attended Kingdom Bound - one of the longest-running Christian music festivals in the country and the largest in New York state. Featuring more than 50 artists - including Grammy winners TobyMac, for KING & COUNTRY and Casting Crowns - the Darien Lake Amusement and Water Park event featured something for everyone and drew the largest crowds seen at the festival in well over a half a decade.

New York State Sen. Chris Jacobs announced he has secured $120,000 in state funding for the 12 branch libraries in the 60th Senate District. This funding will support program upgrades, additional supplies, and other improvements that will enhance the educational impact of these libraries on youth in these communities.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced sporting licenses and deer management permits for the 2018-19 season are now on sale. Licenses and permits can be purchased at any one of DEC's license-issuing agents, by telephone (866-933-2257), or online. The hunting and trapping licenses are valid from Sept. 1 through Aug. 31, 2019.

Artpark's production of "The Odyssey" lived up to billing on Sunday, as the Mainstage Theater show delivered on what the visual and performing arts company promised: Broadway professionals telling the tale of Odysseus and Penelope; grand props, including a spinning stage and a giant monster; members of the community joining together to serve as the people of Ithaca; and even a couple of Easter eggs, in the form of cameos from local celebrities and groups.

Island native Dale Loder passed away peacefully June 4 in Lutz, Florida. He is survived by his loving daughter, Audrey (Ryan) Shaw, and his granddaughter Caitlin, who he adored. He is also survived by his father, Donald; his siblings: Donald Jr. (Karen), Diane (William) Kerner, Douglas (Patricia); and his nieces and nephews. His mother, Dorothy, predeceased him.
