GI National Night Out set for Tuesday

Sat, Aug 4th 2018 07:00 am
Residents of Grand Island are invited to join over 38 million neighbors across approximately 16,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide for National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.
National Night Out is nationally sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, Dietz and Watson, Ring, Associa, Package Guard and co-sponsored locally by the Grand Island Traffic Safety Advisory Board.
Neighbors throughout Grand Island and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on their front porch lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement.
Grand Island National Night Out 2018 will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Town Commons (Baseline and Whitehaven roads) with nearly a dozen emergency personnel groups, as well as local community groups and organizations focusing on promoting healthy interaction within the community. Tim Hortons will provide complimentary coffee and doughnuts, and there will be additional food available for purchase. Interactive displays will focus on driver safety, and there will even be a Grand Island "celebrity" dunk tank, with all donations benefitting the Grand Island Neighbors Foundation.
Organizers ask participants to consider bringing a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy music, fun, and activities that will focus on keeping the entire community healthy and safe.
