Ceretto: Microstamping costs jobs and doesn't prevent crime

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, expressed disappointment Tuesday at the passage of A.1157-B, which requires microstamping of certain firearms sold in New York state. Ceretto noted the legislation is costly to implement and will cost the state jobs, as firearm manufacturers will move operations to other states and is ineffective at preventing firearm-related crimes.

Starting next month, the Village of Lewiston Board of Trustees will have two new members. Democrat Dennis Brochey (197 votes) and Republican Nick Conde (129 votes) bested incumbents Ernie Krell (Republican, 79 votes) and Therese Mudd (Democrat, 74 votes) in Tuesday's election.

On Tuesday, just hours before the first "Tuesday in the Park" concert at Artpark, a public parking dispute was quietly resolved. Artpark & Company board of directors Chairman Chris Brown and Village of Lewiston Mayor Terry Collesano met and ironed out an agreement wherein the $5 charged to concertgoers parked on the Portage Road plateau will be evenly split between the two sides.

The Rapids Theatre and SGC HomeTown Hero's Fund present "Redneck Friends of Our Military Tour" on June 22. Net proceeds will benefit the Samaritan Counseling Center.

"The Redneck Friends of Our Military Tour" comes to The Rapids Theatre in support of the Samaritan Counseling Centers of Western New York. The centers offer full counseling and have now designed special programs to benefit active and retired military families with PTSD and grief counseling.

Grisanti bill requires emergency escape systems for firefighters

Mark Grisanti, R-60th, announced Tuesday that the Senate has passed his bill, S.7677, which requires cities or other employers of firefighters to identify if a firefighter will be exposed to entrapment's at higher levels, identify if those firefighters will be exposed to fire, and determine the appropriate escape system.
NU's Institute of Applied Learning offering STEM Camp for girls
