Artpark & Company announced Free Drum Circles with Stephen Bell as part of the summer season. Performances run 2-3:30 p.m. Saturdays, July 3, through Aug. 28, at Artpark's Emerald Grove, 450 S. Fourth St., Lewiston.
Lewiston gas station set to reopen

CAL's Convenience Inc. is expected to reopen the Sunoco gas station and APlus market in coming weeks at 890 Center St., Lewiston. The front doors were opened in past days, as trucks delivered products and people worked on redoing the store interior. A help wanted sign is now on the glass windows.

Visitors to the Lewiston Artisan Farmers Market were recently surprised to find two familiar faces: Frank and Rachel Dispenza. The couple, which used to run Dispenza's Meat Market on Ridge Road in Ransomville, was the market's original breakfast sandwich provider.

Stuart Sports owner Curt Stuart recently canvassed his Ridge Street neighbors and found more than two-dozen are not in favor of the roadway's one-way traffic pattern. Some, he said, are even scared of motorists heading the wrong way down the street, or hitting a vehicle backing out of one of the parking lots.
Hibbard's donates to VFW, memorial

Over Memorial Day weekend, Hibbard's Original Frozen Custard held a fundraiser for VFW Downriver Post 7487, which maintains the "Circle of Honor" memorial across the street in Academy Park. Proceeds from the custard cookies - a collaboration between Hibbard's and the Village Bake Shoppe - will go toward upkeep at the tribute to Lewiston veterans.

Niagara University: $11.5 million in upgrades for Kiernan Center

Guided by its strategic plan to provide excellence in all phases of the student living-learning experience, Niagara University will break ground next month on an $11.5 million upgrade to the Kiernan Recreation Center. Project construction is scheduled to begin in July, and the renovation is expected to be completed for the fall 2022 semester. Funding for the project includes a $1 million grant from the NYS Higher Education Capital Matching program (HECap), as well as other private donations and university investments.
French and Indian War Encampment returns to Old Fort Niagara

From July 2-4, the French and Indian War Encampment will return to Old Fort Niagara. The three-day event will feature six battle reenactments, two living history camps, dozens of period artisans and merchants, artillery firing demonstrations and dramatic recreations of Native American diplomacy.

The Lewiston Council on the Arts has announced, "Due to the COVID pandemic, our original plan was to decrease the number of artists at the Lewiston Art Festival. Since COVID restrictions have been lifted, we can now accommodate more artists - and have waived the $25 late fee!"

The Niagara County Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services (NCDMH), in partnership with the Niagara County Opioid Task Force (OASIS) and local pharmacies, on Thursday announced the launch of Project Awareness, a campaign to provide the Niagara County Crisis Services 24-hour phone line number on prescription medications that have a high potential for abuse and overdose.

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski said Niagara County will once again honor Purple Heart veterans by adding their name to county's "Book of Honor" at a ceremony to be held Aug. 7. The county is asking any Purple Heart veterans or their family members who have not yet come forward to please do so by June 11 in order to be part of this year's ceremony.

This is thanks to a $100,000 grant from The John R. Wilson Middle School eighth grader Rayn Cooper recently presented two checks totaling $8,000 to the Dale Shank Fundraiser at the 3F Club in Lewiston. The checks marked the successful completion of a wristband sales fundraiser Cooper held in the Niagara County community in honor of Shank - her role model - a Vietnam veteran and youth hunting mentor at the 3F who is battling cancer.
