The Niagara County Department of Health is working closely with the three local hospitals, its mental health and substance abuse department, and community partners - forming the Niagara County Community Health Workgroup - to "identify priority areas to build a plan to improve the health of our communities." The workgroup is conducting a collaborative community health assessment to understand the health needs and concerns of the local communities.

Ciox Health, a company that provides health information management services to providers and insurers across the U.S., is working with its customers, including Catholic Health, to notify patients whose information may have been part of an incident involving unauthorized access to a Ciox employee's email account. About 1,300 hospital and primary care patients in Catholic Health are affected and will be receiving a letter from Ciox in the coming days.

Congressman Brian Higgins announced the House of Representatives approved legislation reauthorizing the U.S. Coast Guard through the end of 2023. The bill provides $12.8 billion for Coast Guard operation, maintenance, construction, research and staffing in 2022, and $13.9 billion for 2023.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced $21 million in funding awards for 15 Youth Assertive Community Treatment teams. New York is the first state in the nation to enact such teams, which serve children ages 10 to 21, and their families, providing services and support in the home and community settings.

"Project Power" is the initiative of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) with the aim to slow the trajectory of childhood obesity through health promotion, nutrition education, increased physical activity, and family involvement for elementary school-aged youth to help prevent obesity, type 2 diabetes, and the complications of diabetes. The Niagara County Center for Economic Development announced the launch of the new Niagara County Façade Program (NCFP). The NCFP will provide matching grants up to $50,000 for eligible businesses in order to rejuvenate their properties to help bring vibrancy to the central business districts in communities across the county. The county has allocated $3 million for the program through the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

Catholic Health announced Tuesday it has secured orders from several investors for $58.5 million in bonds to fund construction of its Lockport Memorial Hospital. In addition to the new hospital, which will become a campus of Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Niagara County, the bond financing will support cardiac catheterization room renovations at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, and other small infrastructure projects across the system.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced all New Yorkers enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for March. All households participating in SNAP - including those already at the maximum level of benefits -will receive a supplemental allotment this month, which will result in New York state's economy receiving roughly $232 million in federal funding.
