“Project Power” is the initiative of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) with the aim to slow the trajectory of childhood obesity through health promotion, nutrition education, increased physical activity, and family involvement for elementary school-aged youth to help prevent obesity, type 2 diabetes, and the complications of diabetes. Community Bank N.A. has committed to support the ADA and virtual “Project Power” in the City of Buffalo.

A press release said, “Community Bank seeks to improve not only the lives of individuals and families, but also the well-being of the community, and Virtual Project Power is a perfect example.

“Through a blend of fun activities and wellness education, the ADA’s ‘Project Power,’ formerly known as ‘Power Up,’ connects and empowers youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and encourages them to develop sustainable, healthy household habits.”

This year, “Project Power” will take place during four two-week sessions in March through October. Youth participants will receive a special ADA “Project Power” box and activity journal delivered to their homes. In addition to twice a week virtual group meetings with friends and group leaders during the one-hour sessions, participants can expect:

√ Games and friendly competitions

√ Weekly social media challenges on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook

√ Family engagement activities and challenges

“Community Bank takes great pride in strengthening the communities where we live and work,” said Hal Wentworth, SVP retail banking and marketing. “We’re honored to support the ADA’s incredible initiative through virtual ‘Project Power’ that will make a lasting impact on our local youth.”

ADA Upstate NY Executive Director Jeff Collins said, “In thanks to the generous donation from Community Bank N.A., the American Diabetes Association will be able to target youth aged 5-12 and their families/caregivers that are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes in the Buffalo area.”
