Niagara County announces reopening of Upper Mountain Road in Lewiston

Niagara County Legislature Chairwoman Becky Wydysh on Tuesday announced the replacement of the Upper Mountain Road culvert over Fish Creek in the Town of Lewiston is complete. The road will reopen to traffic by the end of the day, Wednesday, Dec. 2. The culvert, located northeast of Moyer Road, has been closed since September.

NYS: more than $100 million in additional food assistance for November

The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) announced more than $100 million in additional emergency food assistance to help New Yorkers avoid food insecurity during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. About 700,000 low-income individuals and families enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive additional food benefits this month to bring them up to the maximum allowable amount for November.

Congressman Brian Higgins announced passage of S.910, the National Sea Grant College Program Amendments Act of 2020. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) supports university-based programs that focus on studying, conserving and effectively using U.S. coastal resources, including those in the Great Lakes region, through the National Sea Grant. The bill reauthorizes the Sea Grant College Program through 2025.
Thruway Authority announces start of toll booth removal following successful conversion to cashless tolling

The New York State Thruway Authority on Monday announced the start of major deconstruction at 52 toll plazas (approximately 230 individual toll booths) on the thruway's ticketed system following the successful conversion to cashless tolling on Saturday.

Cashless tolling debuts in New York

Cashless tolling will begin tonight and extend into the overnight hours on the New York State Thruway, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office. The state says the conversion will take place simultaneously at 58 tolling locations across the thruway's 450-mile ticketed system. With some 267 million motorists traveling the thruway each year, AAA Western and Central New York supports this move toward a more efficient traffic system.

Buffalo Zoo announces new winter operating hours

NCDOH to hold free rabies clinic
