Niagara Pride announces winners of Niagara County High School GSAs grants to promote LGBTQ+ diversity

In 2022, Niagara Pride Inc. launched a new initiative with the goal of aiding Niagara County high school gender/sexuality associations (Gay/Straight alliances, or GSAs, for short) to create programming, by offering several $500 grants.

Continuing the community service it has offered for years, the Western New York Independent Living Family of Agencies is enabling citizens with disabilities to participate in the electoral process by offering free, curb-to-curb rides in its vans - one standard and one wheelchair-lift-equipped - to polling places in Erie, Niagara and Genesee counties.

Niagara Falls police seek information on shooting

Monday at approximately 6:40 p.m., the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to the area of Vanderbilt Avenue and DeVeaux Street for a report of shots heard. Upon arrival, officers located a 23-year-old Niagara Falls man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen and his elbow.

State Parks to host information session on extension of crow's nest project

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will host a public information session regarding the expansion of the crow's nest walkway and viewing platform. The meeting will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, in the training room at DeVeaux Woods State Park, 3180 DeVeaux Woods Drive, Niagara Falls. A formal presentation is slated for 6:30 p.m.

It's fall, and influenza (flu) season is here again. The flu is a respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat and lungs. The virus spreads mainly from person to person through droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk. The virus also may spread when people touch something with flu virus on it and then touch their eyes, nose or mouth. Flu can cause severe illness, hospitalization and death. Anyone can get the flu, and serious problems can occur at any age.

Fire on Lockport Road in Niagara Falls

At 6:14 p.m. Monday, Niagara Falls Fire Department crews responded to a fire at Myles Scrap Yard at 5501 Lockport Road. Multiple vehicles on the southwest section of the yard were on fire. Because of the location, it took several hours to bring it under control, due to the difficulty getting equipment back to the area of the fire.
