American Legion Band of the Tonawandas to appear at Cardinal O'Hara High School Performing Arts Center

The American Legion Band of the Tonawandas will hold a Veterans Day concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Cardinal O’Hara High School Performing Arts Center, 39 O’Hara Road, Tonawanda. Tickets are $14 at the door or $12 in advance at the following outlets:

A press release stated, “Hear the 80-member American Legion National Championship Band perform a symphonic pops program in the spectacular style and tradition of John Philip Sousa. On the program are famous marches, ‘The Liberty Bell’ by John Philip Sousa, ‘Guadalcanal March’ by Richard Rodgers, ‘Strike Up The Band’ by George Gershwin, ‘Glenn Miller Medley’ (arr. Bob Lowden), ‘Summon the Heroes’ by John Williams, ‘Salute to the Armed Services’ by R. Cray, ‘Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna’ by Franz Von Suppe, ‘Carousel (Selections)’ by Richard Rodgers, ‘Bring Him Home’ and ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ (from ‘Les Misérables’) by Claude-Michel Schonberg, ‘Gardens of Stone’ by James A. Beckel Jr., and familiar showtunes and rousing military band spectaculars!”

The award-winning American Legion Band of the Tonawandas was formed in 1929 by World War I veterans and Post 264 members. The band (currently 80 members at full strength) draws its membership from a broad cross-section of Western New Yorkers with diverse occupations and backgrounds, including management, engineering, business, medicine, government, sales and industry. A large number are instrumental music educators, or graduates or students of university music programs. Membership is open to all musicians based upon placement evaluation and section vacancies. None of the musicians are compensated.
