6 to receive special awards at 50th annual Black Achievers Gala

On Friday, Oct. 7, Black Achievers Inc. will honor 50 individuals when it hosts the 50th annual Black Achievers Awards Banquet.

This week, Black Achievers CEO Herbert L. Bellamy Jr. released the names of six awardees to be honored at the gala affair.

Trini E. Ross, the U.S. attorney for the W.D.N.Y., will receive the Judge Samuel L. Green Award. James Tooles, who was in the first group of Black Achievers in 1973, will receive the Legends Award. Oscar Alston, a nationally known bass player, will be the recipients the Irene Bellamy Musician Award. The Community Service Award will be presented to businessman Jamil Crews. Buffalo Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Tonja M. Williams will be the recipient of the Mayor’s Youth Award. Tops Friendly Markets will be honored with the Corporate Sponsor Award.

A press release stated, “This is a very special affair you won’t want to miss, as the organization celebrates a half-century of highlighting for the public the achievements of many exceptional individuals.”

The 50th annual Black Achievers Awards Banquet will be held at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center located at 153 Franklin St. The event, an evening of fine dining, networking and entertainment, will begin with a red-carpet reception at 5 p.m., followed by dinner and awards presentations at 7 p.m.
