The Erie County Agricultural Society, sponsors of the Erie County Fair, invites brass, woodwind and percussion musicians, as well as color guard members in grades 7 through 12, to join the Erie County Fair Marching Band this summer. The band is an "all-star" county ensemble representing schools across Western New York. The band performs at parades and events across the region during July and is featured daily at the Erie County Fair.

May 1 is the deadline to apply for the new round of grants available for Great Lakes ecosystem-based management projects through the New York Great Lakes Basin Small Grants Program. A total of $200,000 is available - up to $25,000 is available per project.

Andres selected chairman of Niagara County GOP committee

The Niagara County Republican Committee elected Legislator Rich Andres, a North Tonawanda resident, as the party's new chairman at an executive committee meeting on Tuesday night. Andres will take over leadership of the county's committee from Adam VanDeMark, who stepped down at the meeting while citing professional and family obligations.

Niagara County Sheriff James R. Voutour has announced the new addition to the sheriff's office canine team has been named in honor of Chief Craig C. Harmon, who was the chief of the Niagara County Drug Task Force when he passed away in 2004. The new canine, Chief, is currently in training with handler Deputy Richard Bull. He was purchased through many generous donations and funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

According to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles renewal schedule, Erie County auto bureaus will hit a record number of transactions in 2018. The main cause of this substantial uptick in transactions is due to New York state license renewals. Because of this, Erie County Auto Bureaus are experiencing a significant increase in volume, leading to lengthy wait times of up to two hours.
