Looking for a new activity this spring? The Lewiston Community Lions Club will host a "Strides" 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, April 29, starting at the Lewiston No. 1 Fire Co. firehall on North Sixth Street. Race registration begins at 8 a.m., with the race commencing at 9 a.m.
Walkers and runners can register online at http://Strides5K.itsyourrace.com or by emailing Lion Lynn at [email protected]. The cost is $25 per runner/walker in advance. The runner/walker registration includes food, drinks, a goodie bag and a commemorative race T-shirt.
Free events will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Families and non-runners are also welcome to join in the fun. Inside the firehall, demonstrations, health screenings and music are free and open to the general public. Guests also can win prizes during the basket raffle and 50/50 drawings. Health professionals will conduct free pre-screenings for diabetes and will provide health and wellness information for all ages.
Young children can have their eyes screened for free, compliments of the Lions. A special photograph of their eyes will screen for more than 20 impairments.
"We're hoping to raise awareness of diabetes and to promote healthy lifestyle choices," Lewiston Lions President Lynn Bahringer said. "Come and enjoy some food and drinks while listening to great live music."
