Event will feature educational session with Dr. Michael Mitchell
Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center will host a free vascular screening and education event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, in The Heart Center of Niagara, 571 10th St.
The event will also feature a free educational session with vascular surgeon Dr. Michael Mitchell at noon. The session is open to the public and does not require pre-registration.
Vascular screenings play an important proactive role in understanding risks for potential illnesses. Those at a higher risk of peripheral vascular disease (PVD) are over the age of 50, have family members with PVD or a history of high cholesterol or high blood pressure. Diabetes, smoking, use of tobacco, obesity or sitting for long periods of time can also increase one's chances of this condition.
Those interested in receiving a screening must pre-register, as there are a limited number of slots available. The three tests included in the screening are a carotid artery ultrasound, abdominal aortic ultrasound and ankle/foot Doppler. Results will be provided verbally along with suggested follow up recommendations if appropriate.
To reserve a screening, call 716-278-4604.
