The Niagara County Republican Committee elected Legislator Rich Andres, a North Tonawanda resident, as the party's new chairman at an executive committee meeting on Tuesday night. Andres will take over leadership of the county's committee from Adam VanDeMark, who stepped down at the meeting while citing professional and family obligations.
"As a lifelong Niagara County resident and Republican, I am honored to serve as the chairman of our party" Andres said. "I want to thank Adam for stepping up and serving as chairman for the past three months at a crucial time for our party and committee. I commend his willingness to continue to serve our committee as 1st vice chair and look forward to working alongside him going forward."
Andres has served as a legislator since 2014. He previously served as a North Tonawanda alderman from 2010-13, including two years as council president.
"As a party and committee, we must be unified as we chart a new course forward," he said. "Our party must not only be one of sound political values, but of personal ones, as well. We have been successful in the past because our candidates and elected officials offered a better vision and a better message. Our values of limited government and fiscal responsibility must not be any less or more important than our values of integrity and personal responsibility."
Andres and his wife, Colleen, have three children.
