The Greater Buffalo Niagara Regional Transportation Council (GBNRTC) has announced a public meeting for Region Central, which covers the area of Buffalo surrounding the Scajaquada Creek corridor, including Route 198. After 18 months of analysis, planning and community input, the meeting will present GBNRTC's preferred scenario for reimagining the Scajaquada corridor.

Hochul submits request for federal emergency declaration

Kathy Hochul on Monday submitted a request to President Joe Biden for a federal emergency declaration, as a result of the historic winter storm that began Thursday, Dec. 22, and continues to impact Western New York and the North Country regions. The storm brought blizzard-like conditions, sustained wind gusts of more than 60 miles per hour, and well-below-freezing temperatures through the holiday weekend.

The company has more than 2,850 restoration experts on the ground - including line, service, tree, damage assessment and public safety workers - who are ready to repair the remaining damage as soon as roads are cleared and outages can be accessed.

On Monday morning, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz tweeted: "As of 7 AM, the Driving Ban will STILL be in effect for the cities of Buffalo and Lackawanna and the Towns of Amherst, Cheektowaga, Clarence, Evans, Hamburg, Orchard Park and West Seneca. It is lifted for all other towns as of 7 AM. The Thruway and NYS route are still closed."

On Friday afternoon, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office announced, "Niagara County has declared a state of emergency due to the severe weather conditions that are impacting travel and safety. Effective 2 p.m., Niagara County will be upgrading the travel advisory to a full travel ban until further notice."
