Warming shelters in Niagara County, Buffalo, southern Erie County

The following warming shelters are open and available to those who may have lost power, are stranded, or experiencing extreme cold conditions.

While there is still a travel ban, you may travel to one of the locations only if you are able to safely do so. If you are unable to safely travel to one of these locations, please contact the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office communications division at 716-438-3394, and arrangements will be made to get you to one of the warming shelters.

‘Code Blue’

For Christmas Eve (Saturday) and Christmas (Sunday), “Code Blue” is active in the City of Buffalo and southern Erie County.

The following overnight shelters will be open Saturday night:

•Holy Cross, 412 Niagara St., Buffalo (6 p.m. to 7 a.m.); must be able to use stairs.

•586 Genesee St., Buffalo (6 p.m. to 7 a.m.); an accessible location that was formerly a women's shelter, but will be open to all for “Code Blue” events.

•ROC “Code Blue” transitional housing is open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. For location information, or if you need a ride to the ROC, call 716-222-4020

On Sunday, warming centers include:

•586 Genesee St., 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

•412 Niagara St., 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

•ROC, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Outside of Erie County, contact local law enforcement or 211 for shelter options.

In addition, NFTA has suspended transportation services due to the storm.
