GBNRTC to present preferred scenario for reimagining Scajaquada corridor

Public meeting scheduled for Jan. 17

The Greater Buffalo Niagara Regional Transportation Council (GBNRTC) has announced a public meeting for Region Central, which covers the area of Buffalo surrounding the Scajaquada Creek corridor, including Route 198. After 18 months of analysis, planning and community input, the meeting will present GBNRTC’s preferred scenario for reimagining the Scajaquada corridor.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Canisius College’s Science Hall, 1901 Main St., Buffalo; as well as online. All are welcome to attend. Free preregistration for in-person attendance or participation in the online webinar meeting is encouraged at www.gbnrtc.org/regioncentral-events. 

Parking for the meeting is available at the Health Science Lot, Spillman Lot and Upper Koessler Lot. Canisius College is accessible by Metrorail at the Delavan-College stop.

“This effort is an opportunity to create a better future for all who live, work, play and travel in Region Central,” said GBNRTC’s Region Central Project Director Hal Morse. “By looking at the various needs of the area – from housing and land use to economic development and transportation – we have come up with a scenario that offers a balance of mobility, safety, recreational, economic and environmental benefits.”

Region Central is the area centrally located within the Buffalo-Niagara Region, comprising Delaware Park, Buffalo State College, Forest Lawn Cemetery, and numerous cultural institutions. Buffalo neighborhoods in this area include Black Rock, Delavan Grider, Elmwood Bidwell, Fillmore-Leroy, Grant-Amherst, Hamlin Park, Masten Park, Parkside and Upper West Side.

The Greater Buffalo-Niagara Regional Transportation Council is the Metropolitan Planning Organization for Erie and Niagara counties. It is focused on establishing a comprehensive, cooperative, and continuing transportation planning process for the Buffalo-Niagara Region.
