Right now, churches, businesses, warehouses and homes across Western New York are being transformed into collection spots for Operation Christmas Child. Local collection sites hope to collect 21,000 gift-filled shoeboxes from individuals, families and groups for needy kids during Operation Christmas Child's National Collection Week, Nov. 17-24.

Unofficial Election Day results in the Town of Lewiston show Republican Beth Ceretto defeating Democrat David Sanchez by a more than 400 votes (2,485-2,039). Ceretto, wife of re-elected Assemblyman John Ceretto, who ran unopposed, will serve a three-year term.

The annual Jack Beatty Memorial Hospice Cruise and Clambake held in July continued its tradition of great entertainment, delicious food and leisurely sailing and power boating up the Niagara River, all to benefit patients and families served by Niagara Hospice. The event, now in its 15th year, raised a record $40,000.
