The Oliver Street Merchants Association is inviting the community to celebrate equality for all by taking part in its "Shop With Pride" event at Heritage Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 12. In honor of Pride Month, the organization is hosting a family-friendly event filled with vendors, informational booths and carnival games for kids as well as those young at heart.

Niagara Wheatfield Central School District Community Education is planning fall 2021 classes and ask residents to share their talents, and for business owners to promote their local business with the community. Instructors can create their own content, set their own schedule/fee, and have fun! They can teach a class one time, or as many times as they like between Sept. 15 and Dec. 22.

Wilson Middle School eighth grader Rayn Cooper recently presented two checks totaling $8,000 to the Dale Shank Fundraiser at the 3F Club in Lewiston. The checks marked the successful completion of a wristband sales fundraiser Cooper held in the Niagara County community in honor of Shank - her role model - a Vietnam veteran and youth hunting mentor at the 3F who is battling cancer.

On Tuesday, June 1, the LGBTQ+ flag was raised in a number of notable locations throughout Niagara County in honor of Pride Month. Flag-raising ceremonies were held at Niagara Falls City Hall, Lockport City Hall, Niagara Falls State Park and, for the first time this year, Artpark.

Michael Hibbard's original Gallo restaurant site recently reopened as Gallo Loco, serving almost a dozen different types of taco (torta or bowl), plus fajitas, quesadillas, queso nachos and salads. The interior design features an assortment of bright colors - reds, greens and oranges, among them - as well as the signature carved-metal Gallo roosters.

Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) Corp. and the New York State Division of Criminal Justice have come together to establish a new collaboration between the state's SNUG Street Outreach program and BRAVE (Buffalo Rising Against Violence at ECMC). Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday announced the dedication of a major project that removed an underutilized, two-mile stretch of the former Robert Moses Parkway - now called the Niagara Scenic Parkway - in the City of Niagara Falls. His team said this work created a stunning new area in Niagara Falls State Park called "Gorgeview," which provides unimpeded access to the Niagara Gorge and improved recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.

At 8:16 a.m. today, the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to a man shot at Niagara Metal, located at 4861 Packard Drive. When officers arrived, they found a Niagara County man deceased from a gunshot wound.

FeedMore WNY is expanding its efforts to assist older adults in applying for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) - formerly known as food stamps. The hunger-relief nonprofit is one of 40 organizations throughout the country to receive a $50,000 grant from the National Council on Aging (NCOA) to enhance access to SNAP for qualifying low-income older adults through community-based outreach and enrollment initiatives.

Kleinhans Music Hall announced a special summer recital by the Russian pianist Alexander Malofeev at 7 pm. Saturday, July 17. The recital is made possible by the support of Harold J. and Sandra S. Whistler.
