The "Pantheon of Warriors," a new offering meant to recognize Niagara University graduates called to duty during times of war, highlights a 2011 Alumni Weekend schedule that includes more than 25 events. All Niagara University alumni, particularly those from class years ending in 1s and 6s, are invited to reunite the weekend of Oct. 7-9 so that they may rediscover Monteagle Ridge and relive their days as Purple Eagles.

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, and Niagara County Legislator Renae Kimble, D-Niagara Falls, today took the New York Power Authority to task for raising utility rates on local residents and businesses. Ceretto and Kimble noted that the latest round of rate increases comes after a $550 million debit of NYPA's finances in the 2010-11 state budget deal, a bill which neither public official voted for. The pair also emphasized the urgent need for local representation on the NYPA board of trustees.

The Niagara County Refuse Disposal District's medicine drop-off day on Saturday in the Town of Wheatfield drew this year's highest volume for any such event. Residents got rid of old prescriptions in droves - 57 5-gallon containers totaling more than 588 pounds of pills, which have an estimated illegal street value of more than $1 million, were safely removed from medicine cabinets.

NBC News announces Meredith Vieira has been named to a new role as special correspondent for "Rock Center with Brian Williams," the new primetime newsmagazine led by Brian Williams. NBC announced today that Emmy-nominated talk show "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" will pack up and travel to the Midwest for sports' biggest event of the year, Super Bowl XLVI. In its regular 12:35 a.m. time slot, "Late Night" will air from Indianapolis Wednesday, Feb. 1, Thursday, Feb. 2, and Friday, Feb. 3, 2012.
