Bringing together the region's farming community and the services necessary for daily operations is the goal of the eighth annual Western New York Farm Show, to be held Feb. 1-3 at the Erie County Fairgrounds in Hamburg. The exposition is sponsored by the Erie County Agricultural Society.

The Erie County Department of Public Works' highways division is making it easier than ever for residents and motorists to be aware of road conditions and make travel plans accordingly thanks to the availability of the department's road status viewer, an online tool that clearly shows which roads are county roads as well as the status of those roads (open or closed).

NBC Olympics will present unprecedented coverage of the Paralympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 this March, including 94 hours on television, which nearly doubles coverage of Sochi 2014. In all, NBC Olympics will present more than 250 hours of coverage across NBC, NBCSN, Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA, NBCSports.com, and the NBC Sports app, beginning with the opening ceremony on Friday, March 9.

Local sales tax collection growth accelerated in 2017, according to a report released Monday by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Collections across the state grew by $620 million, or 3.9 percent, from the previous year, marking the highest year-over-year growth since 2013.

Yet for decades, heart disease and stroke have been the No. 1 killer of women, exceeding all cancers combined as the leading cause of death in women. This statistic still comes as a surprise to many women, yet we have a greater understanding of this unfortunate phenomenon in more recent years.

It's rare for an eighth-grader to play on a varsity team, let alone start. The Niagara Falls Wolverines are in rare company, as they start two eighth-graders. Saturday afternoon at Aquinas, eighth-grader Willie Lightfoot was a key in sealing the Wolverines victory.
The Falls defeated the Lil' Irish in their third road game in as many days, 68-55.

Glasgow, a member of the Lewiston Taxpayers Accountability and Action Alliance, raised the issue of transparency as she proceeded to criticize the Town Board's lack of naming, but summarily approving a large number of town appointments, at its reorganization meeting earlier this month.

Representatives from the Old Fort Niagara Association, Youngstown Volunteer Fire Department, New York State Assembly, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and the Niagara County Legislature dedicated a new fire trailer at Old Fort Niagara on Thursday. Officials gathered in the parking lot near the fort's Visitor Center to announce the completion of the project, which has been underway for several years.

On Friday morning, the Lewiston Police Department led a joint active shooter drill on the Lewiston-Porter campus. The LPD teamed with Niagara County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Border Patrol and New York State Police, in conjunction with local fire and EMS companies. Access to the schools was restricted during the duration of the event.

Students and teachers from the Lewiston Dance Center recently took part in a food drive for the Heart, Love & Soul Community Kitchen. Studio owners Rachel Novelli and Kathy Abbondanza decided to try boosting donations by getting the dance instructors involved. The result was a dance contest between the instructors. The class with the most donations would win a $50 gift card.

On the eve of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Congressman Brian Higgins, Town of Tonawanda Deputy Supervisor John Bargnesi, Village of Kenmore Mayor Patrick Mang, Tonawanda Councilman Dan Crangle of and other local leaders paid tribute to Howard Michael Ehrhardt, a World War II veteran from Western New York who helped to liberate Dachau (DAAK-HOW), Hitler's first and longest-run concentration camp in Germany. During a ceremony in Tonawanda Town Hall, Ehrhardt's military service medals were presented to his son, Howard Michael Ehrhardt Jr., also a U.S. Army veteran, who served during the Vietnam War.
