Steven E. Lipshultz, M.D., Carman and Ann Adams Endowed Chair of Pediatric Research at Wayne State University School of Medicine and Children's Hospital of Michigan, has been appointed the A. Conger Goodyear Professor and chair of the department of pediatrics in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo. He will also serve as the pediatric chief-of-service at Kaleida Health and the medical director, pediatrics services business development, for John R. Oishei Children's Hospital.

The craft committee, part of the St. Francis Guild at Mount St. Mary's Hospital, meets every Tuesday to make bears for the children who come to the hospital for surgery and other services. When children arrive for surgery they are greeted by a bear on their bed along with their gown, booties and blanket. As the child gets ready for their procedure, so does their bear.

Brophy named president of Hilbert College

Dr. Michael S. Brophy, former president of Benedictine University (Chicago and Phoenix) and Marymount California University (Los Angeles), has been named the fourth president of Hilbert College. Brophy, who was born and raised in New York, is the first male president in the college's 61-year history. He will take office on Jan. 15, 2019.

Community Collaboration was the strength of the Niagara-Wheatfield eco-campus revitalization project at the Niagara-Wheatfield schools. More than 75 students and adults worked side-by-side on a crisp, rainy Saturday morning in October. For some, it was their first experience not only using a rake, a shovel and a wheelbarrow, but planting flowers and trees and spreading mulch. It was certainly a new challenge.
