New York State Sen. Sean Ryan recently announced Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law Ryan's legislation (S.5992), which increases the amount of low-cost power available to small businesses and not-for-profit organizations through the New York Power Authority's "ReCharge NY" program. The amount of power available through the program has risen from 100 megawatts to 150 megawatts.

As dedicated federal restaurant relief runs out, Congressman Brian Higgins is calling on Congress to move quickly to save jobs and prevent restaurants from having to close their doors. Higgins is cosponsoring the Restaurant Revitalization Fund Replenishment Act (H.R. 3807). The bipartisan legislation introduced in both the House and Senate would provide $60 billion in additional funding to fill the remaining need.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz released his 2021 State of the County address, for the first time ever using a videotaped release to highlight Erie County's multifaceted response to the COVID-19 pandemic and discuss both completed county operations from 2020 and plans for the future. Poloncarz, who did not present a State of the County address in 2020 while Erie County confronted the pandemic, devoted much of the 2021 address to praising the lifesaving work of local health care heroes throughout the public health crisis.

The Diocese of Buffalo on Wednesday announced it "recently became aware of an action brought pursuant to the Child Victims Act by an individual who alleges that he was abused as a child fifteen years ago by Rev. Msgr. James G. Kelly (83), a retired priest of the Diocese of Buffalo, but who continues to assist in parish ministry. The complaint has been filed anonymously and was not served on the diocese but was discovered during a recent search of publicly filed complaints."
