The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens donated more than 700 pounds of fresh, organic produce to Gerard Place's Community Kitchen this year. After three years of partnership, the 100% community-funded, organic eco garden at the Botanical Gardens produced the biggest and most diverse harvest to date. This produce helped feed a community of people where the need was three times greater because of the pandemic.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the release of a proposal to "clarify and simplify" sportfishing regulations based on public feedback and DEC fisheries manager reviews of rules associated with the management of the state's fisheries. The proposed rulemaking also includes a limited number of waterbody-specific regulation changes to support improved management of these waters.

U.S. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh and Congressman Brian Higgins on Monday visited the site of a future Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority charging station in Buffalo, to discuss the opportunities the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act ("bipartisan infrastructure law") can deliver to American communities and workers. The NFTA operates bus, light rail and airport transportation in Western New York, supporting 1,600 jobs in the Buffalo-Niagara Region.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday signed legislation (S.1560/A.1994) into law to protect seniors from fraudulent use of personal information by authorizing support services on identity theft through nonprofit agencies and law enforcement. The legislation allows the Office of the Aging and law enforcement to recognize identity theft as one of the many forms of elder abuse, and take appropriate action to help seniors.
