Lee Simonson, Susan Geissler, Pete Henderson and Tim Henderson (aka Josiah Tryon) welcomed Dorothy Counts-Scoggins to the Village of Lewiston on Tuesday. Almost 60 years ago, at the age of 15, Counts-Scoggins was the first black student to attend Harding High School in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Gas prices are finally retreating. The national average price for regular unleaded gasoline is now $2.34 per gallon, down 3 cents from last week, but up 43 cents from one year ago. The New York state average is $2.54 per gallon, no change from last week. A year ago, the state average was $2.16.
