Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 16.7% in May compared to the same month in 2021, according to an analysis released by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Overall, local collections totaled $1.7 billion, up $242 million from May of last year.

Assemblyman Angelo Morinello is sponsoring a free car seat safety check at the Niagara SPCA from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 23. The Niagara County Sheriff's Office will be on site inspecting car seats to help ensure child safety. There will be a variety of food, including hot dogs, baked goods and ice cream available for sale. The Niagara County SPCA also will have meet-and-greet pet adoptions.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a total of $567 million is available to help low-income electric and gas utility customers pay off past utility bills. The financial assistance program includes an estimated $557 million statewide COVID-19 bill credit program for low-income customers adopted by the New York State Public Service Commission.

Christian Heights Camp is celebrating its 75th anniversary July 2-3. As families sought to recover from the trauma of World War II, several members of the LaSalle Church of Christ wanted to form a camp for their children to have Christian recreation opportunities. They pooled their resources and, in 1947, purchased the Milks family dairy farm in the Town of Napoli.
