On June 24, at 10:23 p.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Communications Center received several 911 calls reporting a structure fire at an apartment building located at 3143 Bellreng Drive in the Town of Niagara.

Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt on Monday announced that, with the help of federal representatives, Niagara County has been awarded the Revolving Loan Fund of $3.9 million. These monies will help fund the clean-up process of brownfield projects, ranging from cleaning buildings with asbestos or lead contamination, to assessing and cleaning abandoned properties.

United Way of Buffalo & Erie County and Oishei Children's Hospital have joined together again for the second year to bring "Over the Edge" - a unique peer-to-peer fundraiser and rappelling event - to Buffalo this fall. Gov. Kathy Hochul recently announced the opening of the initial intake tool to help small businesses determine their eligibility for the COVID-19 Capital Costs Tax Credit. The $250 million program will support small businesses that made investments to comply with emergency orders and regulations, or to increase public safety, in response to COVID-19. If deemed eligible by the screening tool, a link to the application will be provided when the program application opens.

Today's national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $4.90, down 8 cents from last Monday. One year ago, the price was $3.10. The New York state average is $4.96, down 5 cents since last Monday. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.15.

The Buffalo Department of Public Works is alerting motorists who use Delaware Avenue, Gates Circle, Lafayette Avenue, Chapin Parkway and West Delavan Avenue to expect intermittent street closures and lane restrictions as milling and paving takes place between Gates Circle and West Delavan Avenue.

The Niagara County Historical Society's popular summer children's education programs will return this year. Children aged 7 to 11 can participate in one, several, or all of these five-or-six-hour daytime programs, which include historical backgrounds, crafts, outdoor events and other activities.

On Sunday morning, the Office of City of Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino announced a 20-inch water main break at James Avenue and Hyde Park Boulevard. The Niagara Falls Water Board reported lower water pressure in the DeVeaux area due to the size of the break. Crews were on site for repair. A picture of the split in water main is shown above.

Cancer changes a person forever, said Relay For Life Honorary Survivor Eric Fiebelkorn, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2012. He said the time that he spent fighting cancer gave him the opportunity to explore his faith and to reassess the direction of his life. He said this time of great pain and suffering also provided him with blessings.

On Friday, New York State Sen. Sean Ryan was joined by local elected officials and community leaders to announce plans for a pocket park at a former industrial site on Niagara Street. The project will be funded by a $250,000 New York state grant secured by Ryan. Buffalo Common Council member David Rivera's office secured an additional $40,000 for project planning costs.
