Oishei Foundation opens applications for Karen Lee Spaulding Oishei Fellowship for Leaders of Color

Applications are open for participation in the Karen Lee Spaulding Oishei Fellowship for Leaders of Color, hosted by The John R. Oishei Foundation in partnership with the Oakland, California-based Rockwood Leadership Institute. The fellowship, begun in 2019, will welcome its fourth cohort in October after a comprehensive vetting process for applicants this summer.

New York state record for smallmouth bass broken by 8.6-pound catch on Cayuga Lake

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos recently announced a new state record for smallmouth bass was set June 15, opening day for bass harvest season. Thomas Russell Jr. of Albion reeled in an 8-pound, 6-ounce smallmouth bass from Cayuga Lake, Seneca County. Russell's bass surpassed the previous record by two ounces, a tie between fish caught on Lake Erie in 1995, and in the St. Lawrence River in 2016.
New jazz festival to debut in Falls

NYSDOT increasing use of flashing yellow arrows throughout WNY

New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez recently announced work will continue in Western New York to upgrade traffic signals with yellow arrow phases to more safely accommodate motorists making left turns at intersections. Traffic signals featuring a flashing yellow arrow phase will be installed at more locations as intersection improvements are made.
