Aero Transportation: Walk-thru Thanksgiving dinner giveaway to first 400 families

For the fifth year, Aero Transportation of Niagara Falls will host a Thanksgiving food/turkey giveaway. Organizers said they are aiming to give away over 400 bags of dinner items to residents, in collaboration with the Niagara Falls Housing Authority. Food will be given on first-come, first-served basis.

Higgins & Restaino: $40,000-plus in federal funding for Niagara Falls Police Department

Congressman Brian Higgins and City of Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino announced a federal grant totaling $40,648 for the Niagara Falls Police Department. Funded by the U.S. Department of Justice and awarded through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, the grant supports public safety efforts in the Cataract City.

Gov. Kathy Hochul recently announced the on-time release of the mid-year update to the New York State Financial Plan, which, her team said, "shows the state in a strong fiscal position as economic growth beats expectations with revenues projected to be an additional $4 billion higher than prior projections for the current year, fiscal year (FY) 2022. As a result of the strength in receipts, the plan is balanced in every year through FY 2025."
Hochul signs animal welfare legislative package

Gov. Kathy Hochul signed a legislative package relating to animal welfare. Legislation S.4254/A.4075 prohibits insurers from refusing to issue or renew, cancel, or charge or impose an increased premium for certain policies based solely on the breed of dog owned. Legislation S.5023A/A.5823-A requires veterinarians to report suspected animal cruelty.

On Saturday, the Department of Homeland Security announced non-citizen travelers who are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and have appropriate documentation will be permitted to enter the U.S. via land ports of entry (POE) and ferry terminals starting on Nov. 8.

Kathy Hochul on Friday signed legislation S.4661/A.7330 that provides for the transfer of a portion of fines issued for illegally passing a school bus to the comprehensive school bus driver safety training program for the study and promotion of issues involving school bus safety, establishing a school bus motorist education fund. This legislation aims to discourage motorists from illegally passing stopped school buses thus increasing safety to school children.

This bill amends vehicle and traffic law, increasing fines and penalties and creating stricter regulations on vehicle equipment.
