New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the application period for the "Trees for Tribs" "Buffer in a Bag" program is now open. Qualifying private and public landowners may apply for a free bag of 25 tree and shrub seedlings for planting near streams, rivers or lakes to help stabilize banks, protect water quality, combat climate change, and improve wildlife habitat.

One dead, child injured from fall at Niagara Falls State Park

Before 1 p.m. Monday afternoon, the Niagara Falls Fire Department and New York State Park Police responded to a call for two people possibly in the Niagara Gorge, between Terrapin Point and the Cave of the Winds at Niagara Falls State Park. Upon arrival, they were advised two people climbed over a railing and fell from the edge.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday announced that state and local law enforcement agencies throughout New York will be stepping up patrols and targeting impaired driving over the Super Bowl weekend. The enforcement campaign will run from Friday, Feb. 10, through Monday, Feb. 13. This safety initiative is designed to reduce alcohol and drug-related traffic crashes. It is sponsored by STOP-DWI with funding from the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee.
