Joseph Pillittere Jr. will honor his late mother Monday by giving away 500 Silo Restaurant hot dogs. Food will be served from 11 a.m. until the dogs are gone.
Patrons enjoying a free hot dog are encouraged to make a donation to Hospice House.
"Mr. Pillittere has purchased 500 hot dogs. We are working together to hold this great hot dog giveaway to honor his mom," Silo proprietor Alan Hastings said. "We start giving them away until supplies are gone.
"Among other things, those who do make a donation to Hospice House will also be eligible to win one of our 'Sand Dock Sundaes.' We will be making the draw Monday night."

Last year, Lewiston resident Angelo Sarkees began the "Deposits for Food" initiative, collecting bottles, cans and scrap to raise funds for a pair of Niagara Falls charities. In year two, the program's impact more than tripled, and Sarkees presented checks of $1,000 each to Community Missions and Heart, Love and Soul on Thursday.

"Sharknado 2: The Second One" premiered Wednesday on the Syfy Channel to great social media fanfare. The film entertained viewers with wild and nonsensical weather that spawns tornadoes that pick up large amounts of ferocious sharks. These sharks not only can survive in the vortex, but they also retain the ability to attack civilians, fueled by revenge and not physics.

Assemblyman John Ceretto announced his support for Terry Pegula's bid to buy the Buffalo Bills instead of the group featuring Jon Bon Jovi. The Buffalo Sabres announced the team's 2014 preseason schedule. The team will play six games, including three home games at First Niagara Center. The CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game, which features the top American-born prospects eligible for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, returns to Buffalo this fall and will take place on Sept. 25 at First Niagara Center.

Syfy's pop culture sensation "Sharknado 2: The Second One" absolutely devoured the world during Wednesday night's premiere, becoming the channel's most watched original movie ever with 3.9 million total viewers and 1.6 million Adults 18-49. The movie also averaged 1.8 million Adults 25-54.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has announced the New York Power Authority board of trustees approved new allocations of low-cost hydropower to three firms in Western New York. The governor also announced Western New York Power Proceeds Awards for two other firms in the region. Together, the hydropower allocations and funding awards support the creation of more than 80 jobs and more than $50 million in capital investments.
"Access to clean, low-cost hydropower continues to be an important asset for Western New York, and today we are tapping into that potential to grow the regional economy and create jobs for New Yorkers," Cuomo said.
