DEC conducting Lake Ontario tributary angler creel survey

An angler creel survey on Lake Ontario tributaries will be conducted this fall on 23 tributary streams ranging from the Niagara River eastward to the Black River in Jefferson County. Major stream fisheries the survey will include are: Eighteen Mile Creek, Oak Orchard Creek, Sandy Creek, Irondequoit Creek, Oswego River, Salmon River, North and South Sandy Creeks and the Black River.

DEC announces release of pheasants

Approximately 30,000 adult pheasants will be released on lands open to public hunting for the upcoming fall pheasant-hunting season, according to New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Pete Grannis.The pheasant hunting season begins on Oct. 1 in northern and eastern portions of New York; Oct. 16 in central and western portions; and Nov. 1 on Long Island.
