The Lewiston-Porter Athletic Department will be holding a jersey retirement ceremony for Jonathan "J-Mill" Miller at halftime of the Lew-Port Lancers Homecoming varsity football game versus Albion on Friday, Oct. 1.

Scott Townsend, L-P director of athletics reports Miller's will be the third number retired in the history of Lew-Port football. He joins Lew-Port legends Daryl Johnston and Kenny Mort.

"Jonathan was an integral member of the Class of 2010 who died suddenly due to an unknown heart condition while driving his SUV last November. He was a member of the Lew-Port football program for four years, and had just completed his senior season on varsity football team days prior to the accident. While not the most talented player on the field, Jonathan's heart and competitive spirit were always an inspiration for all of his teammates and classmates," says Townsend.

The evening's events include an open reception from 6 to 7:15 p.m. in a tent that will be placed in the south end zone of Blakeslee Field. No. 76 T-shirts will be sold for $8 with proceeds going to the scholarship fund established in Miller's memory.

Anyone purchasing a shirt is invited to take part in the ceremonial coin toss on the field, prior to the Lancers game vs. Albion. Shirts are on sale in the high school main office or by calling 286-7263.
