Villa Maria College announces Bishop Edward Kmiec of the Diocese of Buffalo will celebrate a Mass on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 4 p.m. in the Villa Maria Convent Chapel located at 600 Doat St. The Mass will mark the college's final event in its yearlong 50th anniversary celebrations. Lewiston teenager Michelle Ball recently had the opportunity to appear in Hollywood's biggest budget film of the year: "The Dark Knight Rises." The picture, staring Christian Bale and directed by Christopher Nolan, follows the success of "The Dark Knight," which was the third largest financial grossing movie of all time. With a returning cast and crew from the original movies (including "Batman Begins"), "The Dark Knight Rises" is sure to be the blockbuster hit of the 2012 summer season.

Murphy beat out thousands of acts, including finalists POPLYFE, the Silhouettes and Team iLuminate to take home the coveted $1 million grand prize and an opportunity to headline a show in Las Vegas.

The 2011 "Every Step" Walk to benefit the Hunter's Hope Foundation will take place at Martin's Fantasy Island on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 17. Walk participants will raise money for Hunter's Hope by following a route that leads them through the Grand Island park's landscaped grounds, around the carousel and children's rides, up the Western Street, and down the midway.

The two-day air show Thunder Over Niagara culminated on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C., and in the skies over Pennsylvania. The show was both a tribute to this nation's military and first responders as well as a solemn remembrance to the victims of that terrible day.

The Niagara County Industrial Development Agency board of directors today accepted an application for assistance from Shipman Properties LLC. The holding company of Shipman Print Solutions plans to relocate the 105-year-old printing company to a long-standing vacant building at 6120 Lendell Road, in the Town of Wheatfield. Extensive renovations and upgrades are needed to covert the building into a fully functioning printing operation. The expected total cost of the project is $764,000.

When my friend Kate invited me on a trip to Pamplona for the San Fermin Festival (or "Running of the Bulls," as we refer to it), with her brother, Patrick, and his girlfriend, Leyla, I couldn't pack my white clothes and red scarf fast enough! In preparation for the trip I hopped on Amazon.com and bought all the Pamplona books I could find (a grand total of three). Each described the all-night parties, the all-white attire, and bacchanalian nature of the festival, but none prepared me (and us) for the realities of Pamplona.
