Actor/recording artist Jack Black, six-time Grammy winner and current three-time nominee Fergie, three-time Grammy winner and current nominee Questlove (The Roots) and nine-time Grammy winner Ringo Starr will appear as presenters. "Music's Biggest Night," hosted by two-time Grammy winner and "NCIS: Los Angeles" star LL Cool J, takes place live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 12, (8 to 11:30 p.m., live) on the CBS Television Network.
Niagara Falls council affirms opposition to Toronto casino day before Queen's Park says it's still on the table for Ontario Place

One day after Niagara Falls council voted to voice concern to the province about the possibility of a casino in Toronto, the head of the government's new panel to make recommendations on the future uses for Ontario Place refused to rule out the possibility of a new gaming facility.
Mount St. Mary's Hospital mission committee to host Valentine's Day fundraising event

The mission committee of Mount St. Mary's Hospital will host its 10th Valentine's Day Extravaganza on Tuesday, Feb. 14, in the main lobby of the hospital. The annual event benefits the St. Vincent de Paul employee assistance fund and mission projects. Open to the community from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., the event features a basket auction, bake sale, 50/50 split, "Plinko" and food. The drawing for prizes will begin at 3 p.m.

'Pink in the Rink' at NU

The Niagara University women's hockey team is holding its annual "Pink the Rink" game on Friday, Feb. 3, when they host Mercyhurst University at 7 p.m.

All four of the women's hockey teams in the College Hockey America conference are taking part in the sixth annual "Skate for the Cure" fundraiser. The program was started to help raise awareness and funds toward the fight against breast cancer. In an effort to "pink" Dwyer Arena, the hockey team will wear custom-made pink jerseys and encourage everyone in attendance to join them by also wearing pink.

Ceretto leads fight for region's mass transit

A representative from Assemblyman John Ceretto's, R-I-Lewiston, office will address the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority tonight at a regional forum hosted by the transit agency. A statement from Ceretto detailing his support for increasing state funding to the NFTA in order to ensure reliable mass transit for Western New York residents and avoid fare increases for commuters will be read during the event for public record.
Wallenda wants to establish permanent entertainment home in Niagara Falls

Daredevil Nik Wallenda wants to establish a permanent theatre in Niagara Falls where he and members of his family can put on tightrope or aerial shows and other forms of circus entertainment.

"I've always said I want to make Niagara Falls my second home," the Florida-based Wallenda told Bullet News on Monday. "Why wouldn't I? Look at the crowds that come through Niagara Falls. I wouldn't be a very good businessman if I didn't consider something like that."

Wallenda, 32, is part of the famed circus family the Flying Wallendas.

Junior League of Buffalo seeks grant proposals

The Junior League of Buffalo has announced the 2011-12 community assistance small grants program's request for proposals. Qualified not-for-profit agencies throughout Western New York are encouraged to apply for grant funding up to $1,000. Past recipients will be considered for award monies once in a two-year period.
