Higgins shares information on Earned Income Tax Credit

Congressman Brian Higgins is encouraging eligible Western New Yorkers to pursue the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), a tax provision that can help lift families out of poverty. While 25 million people claimed the EITC in 2020, it is estimated 20% of those eligible did not take advantage of the credit.

These illegitimate emails ask recipients to verify their profile to avoid experiencing delay and future problems in renewing their license. The messages link to a non-listed URL. New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos on Wednesday announced proposed regulations to implement a new statewide waste reduction initiative that supports food donation to help hungry New Yorkers and food recycling to help prevent the landfilling of food scraps. The proposed regulations would require composting and the donation of edible food by large food scrap generators to promote an effective reuse of materials otherwise headed for landfills.

Tops Friendly Markets has raised $11,950 as a result of its gingerbread house campaign for Oishei Children's Hospital. The fundraiser, which kicked off Dec. 1, welcomed families to purchase a gingerbread house kit at locations throughout the region, with a portion of the proceeds being donated back to the hospital. The kits came complete with gingerbread to build a house, sweet candy decorations, and delicious icing.
