The Historical Association of Lewiston's signature event, the Lewiston Tour of Homes, will kick off the holiday season Christmas Walk weekend, Dec. 2-3. Tickets are on sale now for the 13th annual event, themed "Christmastime with Fieldstone and Holly," which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

The Lewiston Choraleers will kick off their popular holiday concert series at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at St. Peter's R.C. Church, 620 Center St., Lewiston. The event will be part of the annual Lewiston Christmas Walk, which is sponsored by the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce.

Lewiston No. 1 Volunteer Fire Co. and local first-responders were on site at the 500 block of Center Street before 10:30 a.m. Saturday, responding to a call of sparks, fraying and smoke coming from a basement electrical panel. The building's ground level is home to Cool Smiles (dental office of Dr. Anthony DeLuke), Chéri Amour, Salon Jule and Antique to Chic.

The Village of Lewiston's crown jewel has a new owner - one who has yet to be identified. Over the weekend, the Hastings family - Richard, his wife, Judy, and son, Alan - reached an agreement to sell the Frontier House and almost one acre of property for $800,000. The deal was represented by Dian Ruta, a licensed associate broker with Great Lakes Real Estate Inc.

Despite efforts this week by the Hastings family to try and answer the Village of Lewiston's Frontier House inquiries, and to provide some renovation plans, Zoning Officer Ed DeVantier still intends to issue appearance tickets in Town of Lewiston Town Court.

Arien Bissell of Lewiston was named the recipient of the 2017 Zonta Club of Niagara Falls NY, Non-Traditional Student Award. She recently received her award certificate at the Zonta Club's annual educational awards dinner at the Sheraton at the Falls in Niagara Falls.

A group of dedicated Historical Association of Lewiston volunteers were out in force Saturday to wash and wax Lewiston's two landmark statues: the Freedom Crossing Monument on the waterfront, and the Tuscarora Heroes Monument at Portage Road and Center Street. The volunteers perform the annual maintenance to preserve the luster and quality of the bronze sculptures.

Proceeds from The Jack Beatty Memorial Hospice Cruise & Clambake were presented to Niagara Hospice on Wednesday. The fundraising event, held Friday, July 10, and celebrating its 18th year, raised $25,274.14.

Lewiston fire crews are credited with staging a quick response to a structure fire in the village late last month. The Sept. 29 call on the 400 block of Plain Street involved a garage structure fire, fully engulfed in a historical section on the village's west side - an area of well-maintained residences, the nearby Lewiston Historical Museum and numerous businesses around the block on the Center Street strip.

The Lewiston Police Department announced Monday it is in receipt of 24 new tactical ballistic vests. Each vest contains a metal plate, weighs close to 30 pounds, and is rated level IV, which is the highest level of protective gear.

The Niagara Falls National Heritage Area has announced its sponsorship of field trips for school districts to Old Fort Niagara's "Fridays on the Frontier" program for the third year in a row. "Fridays on the Frontier" are interactive hands-on education programs for fourth- and seventh-graders that immerse students in the experiences of people who lived in the Niagara Region during the American Revolution. The programs will take place every Friday during the month of October.

On Saturday, Artpark became the latest venue to fall under William Close's spell as the world-renowned installation artist performed with his Earth Harp Collective on the newly extended Earth Harp, featuring more than two-dozen 1,000-foot-plus strings that sailed and wailed above the Lewiston audience.
