The Historical Association of Lewiston welcomed the community to the Brickyard Brewing Company on Tuesday for a special treat: Emmy Award-winning photojournalist Isadore "Izzy" Bleckman and his wife, Mary Roseberry, screened the documentary "Risking Everything: A Story of Niagara's Freedom Seekers." The 33-minute film chronicles Lewiston's role in the Underground Railroad, juxtaposing stories with sculptor Susan Geissler's work in creating the Freedom Crossing Monument.
'Doctors with a Heart Day' nets more than 1,000 lbs.

Dr. Glenda R. Rose, Dr. Thomas G. Barba and the staff of Rose Chiropractic P.C. in Lewiston held their 29th annual "Doctors with a Heart Day" on Saturday, Feb. 9. Chiropractic adjustments, examinations and nutritional testing were exchanged for donations of food, collected to benefit the Niagara Community Action Program's food pantry.

The 195-year-old Frontier House was sold to a group consisting of Ellicott Development CEO William Paladino and Lewiston developers Jeff and Jerry Williams. Their newly formed LLC purchased the building and almost one acre of land - including a parking lot - from Hastings Lewiston Inc. for the price of $800,000.
Old Fort Niagara presents 'Winter Woods Battle'

Old Fort Niagara encourages the public to embrace winter and enjoy a day of living history on Saturday, Feb. 16, at its annual "Winter Woods Battle" featuring indoor and outdoor activities. The day's demonstrations start at 10 a.m. and include fur trading, shelter building, fire starting, weaponry, cooking, winter games, artisans and snowshoeing (or hiking) to a battle in the woods with complimentary hot chocolate with the re-enactors.

Village officials met recently to review a near-final set of designs for Mason's Mission Playground at Marilyn Toohey Park. When completed - hopefully by next summer - the playground is expected to be almost 14,000 square feet.

Village of Lewiston Mayor Anne Welch on Monday unveiled a conceptual plan to revitalize Academy Park. Proposed improvements would allow the municipality's most prominent green space to be used year-round.As a result, the Niagara County Peach Festival would need a new home. Welch and the Board of Trustees discussed this with members of the Lewiston Kiwanis Club, who run the annual event.

On Friday evening, July 27, Town of Porter resident Eric Olds-Reid, 37, was the victim of a tragic ATV accident on Youngstown Wilson Road. He was taken via Mercy Flight to ECMC in Buffalo, where he succumbed to his injuries the following morning.
Village of Lewiston: Frontier House scans to give detailed blueprint of building

Niagara Boundary and Mapping Services President Kenneth Lee Slaugenhoupt spent part of the past week laser-scanning the Frontier House. Working inside and outside the building, he used a FARO Laser Scanner, which, he said, is capable of collecting 488,000 measurements per minute with a tolerance of ±3mm (or 1/8 inch).

The 19th annual Jack Beatty Memorial Cruise and Clambake, held Friday, July 13, continued its tradition of lively entertainment, delicious food and leisurely sailing, all to benefit Niagara Hospice. The event raised a large amount to support the purchase of a new ambulette for Niagara Hospice. A formal check presentation will be in October at Niagara Hospice.
