'See It Through Buffalo' to premiere Friday at Buffalo International Film Festival

"See It Through Buffalo," the documentary short that has played to hundreds of thousands of visitors in Venice, Italy, since May, will premiere in Western New York this week as part of the Buffalo International Film Festival.
Dashkoff to speak on cardiac health at Elderwood at Grand Island

Neil Dashkoff, M.D., medical director of the Niagara County cardiac catheterization laboratory at The Heart Center of Niagara, will give a free presentation on cardiac health, Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Elderwood at Grand Island, 2850 Grand Island Blvd. His talk, titled "Prevention, Symptoms and Treatment of a Heart Attack," will begin at 2 p.m.

The Buffalo Bills and Unyts have teamed up to host a One Buffalo community blood drive on Tuesday, Oct. 2, inside the Dunn Tire Club at New Era Field. The event will give presenting donors an opportunity to spend part of their Tuesday in the stadium in the Dunn Tire Club. All donors will receive a pair of One Buffalo socks, and have a chance to meet Bills and Sabres alumni.

Niagara Falls welcome plaza project update: Additional slag discovered, contained onsite while cleanup advances

During the continued construction of the Niagara Falls State Park Prospect Point welcome plaza project, contractors for the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation discovered a limited area of additional slag to be cleaned up on park property. State Parks said the materials have already been contained and pose no threat to public health and safety, as they are in the same fenced-off project area, inaccessible to the public, as last month's discovery.

Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. (ECHDC) has released the results of its Outer Harbor "Capital Planning Phase" public survey. The qualitative survey, which was conducted both online and in-person, was part of the agency's first community meeting to seek public input for three projects focusing on access and the activation of over 150 acres of Buffalo's Outer Harbor.

Earlier this week, Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn said, "In light of the grand jury report released by the attorney general's office in Pennsylvania, the New York State Attorney General's Office contacted our office regarding a potential joint investigation into alleged sexual abuse by Catholic priests in New York state, specifically within the Diocese of Buffalo. The Erie County District Attorney's Office is in consultation with the attorney general's office to explore the logistics of a potential partnership."

On Friday evening, July 27, Town of Porter resident Eric Olds-Reid, 37, was the victim of a tragic ATV accident on Youngstown Wilson Road. He was taken via Mercy Flight to ECMC in Buffalo, where he succumbed to his injuries the following morning.

On Thursday, the Erie County Legislature approved Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns' request for funding to make significant upgrades to technology at the clerk's office. The resolution passed the legislature 10-1, and approved the spending of $134,519 for technology and seating upgrades.
