On March 22, Grand Island resident Paul Leuchner met with I National Aeronautics and Space Administration officials at their Glenn Research Center in Cleveland to take temporary possession of a lunar rock sample from the 1971 Apollo 15 mission. The sample, encased in a solid pyramid of clear Lucite, was being loaned to the Buffalo Geological Society for display at its annual gem and mineral show that weekend.

The 13th annual Colvin Cleaners 'Gowns For Prom' program, sponsored by The Allstate Foundation and presented by WKSE "KISS" 98.5-AM and host Janet Snyder, distributed a record 877 gowns and nearly 1,000 pieces of hand-made jewelry to high school students from throughout Western New York during distribution over three days last week at Shea's Performing Arts Center.

Once held in the student cafeteria, this year's rendition took place at the new wing of the Niagara Falls Country Club. There, parents, teachers, faculty and members of Rosary Altar Guild Society joined forces to stage a ladies luncheon, mother-daughter fashion show and grand gift and basket raffle, all to raise funds for the Lewiston elementary school.

'Doctors with a Heart Day' another success

Dr. Glenda R. Rose, Dr. Thomas G. Barba and the staff of Rose Chiropractic P.C. in Lewiston held the 28th annual "Doctors with a Heart Day" on Saturday, Feb. 10. Chiropractic adjustments, examinations and nutritional testing were exchanged for donations of food collected to benefit the Niagara Community Action Program's food pantry. In total, 1,200 pounds of food were collected - that's over a half-ton!
