Event slated for Sunday, April 15
Preparations are underway for the 2018 Northwest Jazz Festival, which will take place Friday and Saturday, Aug. 24-25 in the Village of Lewiston. To help offset some of outdoor event's costs, the board of directors and Jazz Festival staff will hold their annual fundraiser, "A Taste of Jazz," this year at the Brickyard Brewing Company, 432 Center St. Live music, food and raffles will be offered from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, April 15.
Three bands will be featured at the fundraiser: The Hot Club of Buffalo, Alex McArthur/Jon Lehning Quartet and the Paul Hage Mirage Band. Jazz Festival Music Coordinator Tony Zambito has put together a showcase of musicians who have donated their talent and time for the fundraiser.
"We are excited to present three outstanding groups at the annual fundraiser, which will be a preview for the 2018 Northwest Jazz Festival," he said. "Paul Hage Mirage offers a truly unique experience in Mediterranean jazz that has won them much acclaim regionally. The Jon Lehning Trio features three of the area's top rising stars, saxophonist Jon Lehning, the dynamic vocalist Alex McArthur, and the 2017 JazzBuffalo Rising Star of the year, pianist Harry Graser. We are also happy to present Buffalo's premier gypsy jazz band, The Hot Club of Buffalo, which excels in the tradition of Django Reinhardt."
The fundraiser will feature food donated by local restaurants and jazz festival vendors as well as a 50/50, basket and silent auction. Additionally, an announcement will be made during the fundraiser regarding the 2018 Jazz Festival headlining bands and musician lineup.
Tickets for the April 15 event are $20 presale or $25 at the door and can be purchased at the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce, Village of Lewiston municipal office, at local Northwest Bank locations, or by calling 716-754-9500.
